    Monthly Character Read Aloud

Burton Valley is now focusing on the character pillar of TRUSTWORTHINESS. Mrs. Dolley and Mrs. Bullard have started the second whole school read aloud book, A Bike Like Sergio's. The book tells the story of Ruben, a little boy with a big decision to make. Ruben sees a woman drop $100. He picks it up. What should he do? Give it back to the woman who dropped it? Buy the bike he so desperately wants? Give it to his mom who is struggling to buy groceries for his family?

The books has lead to powerful discussions about guilt, morals, and the internal and intangible rewards that come from being honest and doing the right thing.

    We're Choosing Kindness!

At Burton Valley, we believe that kindness is the roof supported by our pillars of character. To be Kind, one must be Trustworthy, Respectful, Responsible, Fair, Caring and a good Citizen. Every few weeks, we learn about a different character trait and show how it relates to our school's focus on kindness.
