Welcome to Kindergarten!

Dear Room 4 Families,

We had a terrific first week of school!  What a delight to meet your students and you!  Thank you for coming to Back-to-School Night.  I know you received a lot of information, please ask if you have any questions.  I hope to also see you for parent-teacher conference week and we can talk more then.  If you did not get a chance to sign up my list is on the bulletin board at the front door.

We are so lucky to have so many people willing and able to volunteer in our classroom this year!  Thank you!! Two more ways to help are to volunteer for our Library time (Wednesdays, 8:45-9:15) and also to volunteer in the lunch room (M, T, TH, F, 11:00!).  Additional special projects and field trip requests will be sent home in the Friday Folder as needed.

In August and September some of our themes in the classroom will be colors, shapes, trains, the alphabet and numbers.  We will have special color days and if your child chooses to, they may wear the color of the day.  Many of the "art" activities are really about learning how to use the materials, glue sticks, scissors, pencils, crayons, etc. and following directions.  Of course we are also learning to clean up after ourselves too!  Our reading workshop this month centers around instilling in the children that "they are readers!"  We can read many things in our environment and in books.  The ultimate goal is fostering a love of learning!  This carries into our writing workshop also.  We will discover that kindergarteners know a lot and have a lot to teach others!

I look forward to a wonderful year with you!
