Ask your first grader

1.  How does the "r" change the sound of "a" and "o" when it is right after the vowel?  What sound does "ar" make (arrr... like a pirate) and "or" make? (we say "or" as in oreo!).

2. When we have an addition problem with a 9 (9+7= for example) how can we make a friendly number to help us solve?  (We turn it into 10+6)

3.  Which country did you learn about in your Holidays Around the World unit?  What did you learn?  We learned that Sinterklass visits children in the Netherlands on December 5th.  They leave their shoes out and find a treat in them! We learned that La Befana is a friendly witch who visits children in Italy on January 6th and leaves gifts for them.  We have two new stamps in our passports!

Holiday Sing December 21st- Early Dismissal 12:15 p.m.

The wonderful BVE Holiday Sing is coming!  Our class will be singing in the second show at 10:30 a.m.  on Friday, December 21st.  The first graders wear normal clothes (not pajamas like in Kindergarten).  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Weekly Topic:  Can you tell us a tongue twister?

Not only is sharing a great way for students to tell us more about themselves, but it also helps develop public speaking skills. In our class students present their sharing and then get to answer questions from their classmates. Sharing topics will be announced weekly on our website. If students forget their sharing they can tell about it or just share next week on the new topic.
